Nujoud Book Club

I finished "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett yesterday and for anyone reading this, I though it was a great book and this is my recommendation. The book is extremely long, nearly 1000 pages, but it covers and entire lifetime in detail and the building of a catherdral in middle ages England, obviously not a quick task. The book centers on the lives of the Prior whose monestary it is and the "architect" and his family. I say "architect" but they were still laypersons and called builders. In any case, good book and lots of great detail about the process of building and the good and evil in people left to their own devices during a time when power could very easily be used for both good and evil.

Ooh, I like the Nujoud book club! What's up next? I hear there is a somewhat sequel to Pillars set about 150-200 years later in the same town. It's called World Without End.

I thought Pillars was a great book too, though it made me have some strange/bad dreams! I've added World Without End to my list. Right now I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm only about 45 pages into it, but it's pretty good so far. What's next on your list?

I went to B&N to check out the books today. I like Follett as an author, so I picked up a different one of his books that looked good "Hornet Flight". Totally not like Pillars though, set in WWII. I looked at World Without End and want to read that eventually but they only had it in hardback and I'll either get it from the library or wait till its in paperback.

Also bought, Persuasion by Jane Austen. It's the only Austen book I haven't read and for $5 on the B&N classics, I went for it.

Ken Follett is usually an entertaining read.

Persuasion is actually my favorite Austen book. It's an unusual choice, but I really like Anne the best of her heroines.

So far Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice is my favorite in the Austen books. I'll have to let you know what I think of Anne after I read Persuasion.

Funny, I happened to catch Persuasion (BBC) on PBS awhile back...now I'm about to delve into the book. Loved the movie, will undoubtedly love the book. I think you'll like Anne.
